Corrupting young minds......

Post by Kaz » Thu Feb 16, 2012 6:53 am

:smt005 Made you look :smt044

I was thinking, hopefully we will get lots of children coming past our activities in the Mall and I thought it would be really cool if we could give as many children as we can a cloth nappy for their doll or teddy.

 Nothing like planting the seed of 'cloth is good' from a very young age.

So, if you have scraps of fabric and we use the Wee Weka Dolls Pattern (OK with you Leanne?) I have a roll of elastic and Kutwells has cheap velcro on a roll which I could get. We could have a sewing day or we could just make as many as we can individually and gather them up nearer the event.

We could do both. I'd love to have a get together :morningcoffee: :sew: but realistically, a few over a longer period works better for some.

What does everyone think?

Awesome :D

I figure if those who can't sew have stuff they could donate, would be brilliant. Doesn't have to be nappy fabric, any cotton prints would do. I think it would be better if they are colourful with prints as well as PUL or other fabric, just because kids like them like that. I have some made from 2 layers of flannel. The kids don't mind :D

Do they need to have PUL if they're doll nappies? I'm just thinking I have some minky and cotton I could use, microfleece inners... but if they're only going on dolls is there any point doing a hidden pul layer? 8-[

Nope, not a hidden layer. But some children, like mine would like it to look & feel like a real nappy. So PUL on the outside and anything on the inside.

I've made some single layer with FOE before but that could end up being a bit spendy.

I have a whole truckload of lastin too, if anyone wants to use some.

Ok sweet, I'll make some minky, some cotton and some PUL. Yay a use for the bag of scraps too bit to throw away, too small to use for anything else!

I can't sew, time is scarce for me at the moment, but I can give you some PUL.
REMind me - I'm going to be sending you a message to see if we can steal your lovely daughter for a night so my DH can take me out (not that he knows he's taking me out yet)- just got to figure out which one.

I've done 5 and have a few more cut out, turns out I have heaps of velcro  But my stash is very boy-y, so if anyone has any scraps big enough for doll nappies in minky or PUL in girly colours I can sew them up :)

I have some leftover baby blue, and black PUL, and some suede cloth, from Mum making my kids nappies. I can't sew it but happy to donate if it would help? It it in Invercargill with me at the moment, but I move to Christchurch in a fortnight and could pass it on to someone then?>
