To check if a nappy is breathable simply breathing on a nappy isn't going to achieve it in most instances. Stuff the nappy in an empty glass so it makes a well and poor in a small amount of warm water on top of the nappy. Leave a few minutes and see if the glass fogs up. If it doesn't the nappy isn't breathable.

Unstuffed. You are only trying to see if the PUL is breathable and don't want the water touching the glass.

K bum genius got used today.....
ayla had a 3 hour sleep after this morning nappiccino.
Just got her up now and she had leaked out the front!
Admittedly he is a tummy sleeper and i did only have the one insert in there which was pretty wet so that could possibly be why :)
otherwise its a lovely fit.....but will have to use it a few more times before i can say for sure what i think of it :)

I tried the glass thingy you suggested andrea and the glass did fog up so i guess it is breathable!I felt aylas bum before taking it off er and it wasnt particularly hot or anything either.....

I really like my bumGeniuses too, but as mentioned before the lycra is already pilly. I normally really don't like velcro on naps because I find it too stiff and scratchy, but this velcro is very soft and lovely.

The laundry tabs are already coming off one of them, so I need to send it back, which is a pain. But I'm hoping that if I ask nicely they will replace it with a mandarin orange one. Orange, light blue and yellow (I believe) are the 3 colours due out at the end of April.

Here are the 3 new bumGenius! colours:

Twilight ( a light blue)
Butternut ( a light orange)
and Grasshopper ( a light sage)

They just had to come up with snappy colour names, didn't they?!
They are going to start shopping at the end of this week or the beginning of next in the States.

So who's going to bring them here to NZ?

I've started using this pocket on James (2 weeks old, I would guess just under 10 lb now).

It is a great fit - I love it!

If I was going to buy a set of pockets for him, I would buy some more of these. Being velcro they are great for those who struggle with snaps. And since it still fits Emily really well (with 1 rise snap done up) I would be confident that it would see James (or Emily) through to toilet training.

Leanne--glad that nappy is working so well for you. What are you stuffing it with for James?

Well, I found the answer to my own question. I should have known. For a mere $41.95 plus shipping you too can buy a colour bumGenius from mumandbubs. Oy vey, that's a lot of dosh!

I'm stuffing it with an infant prefold (preferably unbleached 'coz I'm sure they absorb a bit more than the bleached ones - they certainly look nicer on the line!), and a booster or two (usually 2 since it's usually used at night). All of those folded with extra bulk at the front.

Can't believe it's $42! I love this nappy, but I wouldn't pay that much for any nappy!

Hi ladies!
I am interested in these nappies, but am curious as to what the outer layer is. I emailed the company and asked, they would only say it wasn't PUL. Does anyone have an idea of what it is???
Thanks, Leah

Hi Leah- I am really interested in that question also! Wonder why they won't say- maybe so people can't copy? I'm really not that keen on the fabric, I'm convinced it is not very breathable. And wow $42 is amazing! I bought mine off Rosie I think for $34 and that is my maximum!

Posted this in another thread but am adding it here: I recently got a replacement one because of a fault with the laundry tabs and the stretchy tabs on the new one are different from my old one--the new ones are a bit stiffer, a little less stretchy and less snaggy/pilly than the old ones, which is good.

I think these are ok - like some of you said tho' - expensive....

If your BG doesn't have a label on it saying BumGenius!, then it was one of the first generation. These were made in the Far East and weren't standing up to wear & tear, so production was brought back to the States. These have the BG label on them, stating 'made in USA' and are supposed to be better quality. Cottonbabies was replacing them in the US and I know the distributor here is doing that too - so try emailing CB and complaining if they're getting tatty.

Interesting, Marina. I'll have to go check out my BGs. And I noticed the other day that the price of these in NZ has come down to a more reasonable level.
