Which cover is best when using flat nappy?

Post by HannahJaneDC » Tue Jun 15, 2010 1:38 pm

Hi there,

I have 3 kids and when my first was born I don't think any of the modern cloth systems really existed, so I bought flat nappies and used them with pins and fluffy over-naps and when she got bigger went through quite a few of those plastic pant style over-naps (they always ripped, not very eco friendly!) Since then I have been given many different types of hand-me-down over-naps, some down-undies, one pocket fuzzy bun and one real nappy, oh and some that the tags are so old I can't read them. All of them were second or third hand so I can't really compare their quality because I don't know how old they are. Unfortunately, most of them are no longer that water resistant and my 11month old soaks through all the time. My sister-in-law, who also has heaps of flats and no really good over-naps, and I want to buy some together. Our children in nappies are roughly the same size (mine is 11 months, hers is 16 months) but she is also due to have her second soon.

What do people recommend, considering we have a plethora of flat nappies and pretty much no good over-naps? Are the over-naps you buy these days usually only used for fitted nappies? If you do use a modern over-nap with a flat nappy do you use pins?

Please help, I'm very confused about all the options and want to get something that will last.

Thanks

My personal favourite is Thirsties (but take that with a grain of salt as I sell them too ;) ).

But I have favoured Thirsties for years (even before I sold them!) - they have gussets which are an extra guard against leakage. For me, no other cover compares :)

Have a wonderfull size adjustable cover (osfm) ( I admit to being the designer so mite be considered bias  )

it can be used over fitted nappies or flats or even prefolds,

weither you want ot use pins or not on the falts is a personal preferance, BUT with nthe right cover it would be possible to just "pad" fold
(into a rectangle) and lay inside the cover

heres a review posted on the website

or you can use the flat as insert for pocket nappies, which has a stay dry layer to keep baby skin nice and dry, and less bulky :D

I sell some too - cheap because they are no longer being made. But they are very good over flats and are NZ made. https://cosybundles.co.nz/catalog/index.php?cPath=24
