Yay! Don't know how I missed this thread earlier.
With all the crappy weather lately here's something that makes me happy to be in Wellington again!

Right... we are looking at something like this for our logo (and name???)

My sister took one look at it and told me everything that was wrong with it (damn design student!) but it spurs me on even if it is crap!

I think that one is actually a bit squashed.. but you get the idea!

 umm, I'm not sure I like it? Sorry, don't know how to say that in a nice way!

I don't like that the baby is all blacked out, something just doesn't look right...

And, it's probably a great name, but - what does it mean? And, would people look at the name and know that it was to do with babies and nappies?

(No, I'm not a design student  )

What does the name mean?? That would be my most important query... how would people know that it was about nappies and/or babies...

Valid concerns :D

It looks weird because I am an amateur and don't know how to do the silhouette properly and just quickly put vaguely where a nappy would go.

And the name... means 'Littlies' World' but I'm re-thinking using french. The reason we went with french is that I'm france-obsessed (can't wait to go there and learn to speak french properly!) and my business partner is from Paris. So yeah... the name reflects us.

We'd have a bit more info than that when using it for marketing purposes... something underneath the name like "Modern Cloth Nappies and Baby Paraphenalia" (Note: not using 'paraphenalia' but I can't think of another word other than "stuff" at the moment :P ) But anyway, specifying what the shop actually is.

And the sihouette doesn't have to be black either... can be white on a black background... again... I'm an amateur.

But yeah... a work in progress. When my sister has a spare moment I might try and talk her into doing something better. (Even if it means maintaining that my design is PERFECT so that she gets so irritated she HAS to redesign it to save the world from such a bad logo)

I think if we go english, I like just "Littlies" - I think it's cute (and not expensive sounding like the french!)

i'd suggest getting a name that is easy to say, pronounce, and spell - and that is easy to use as a domain name in case you get a website. and also a name that reflects your product.

its hard getting people to remember your name, so if they do remember it you want them to be able to spell it etc and tell others too!

there is already www.littlies.co.nz website so bear that in mind.

oh yeah and also becareful about what you write on public message boards etc, especially while you are in teh concept stage as someone might "borrow" your ideas before you have locked them in!!!!

And who could forget a logo like Breastmates eh Fran!! I swear those BB's stare at me! lol

Nikki - you can have your personality reflected AND represent your product line. It just depends which one you want at the foreground.
I chose mine for a variety of reasons. Dandelion flowers are cheerful and bright, the puffs are soft and amazing to look at. You can use every part of the plant and flower. They are tenacious and grow everywhere. And finally noone can resist blowing the dandelion seeds!!! and watching them float away. My wipes are NZ made, so it seemed natural to add the NZ to the end of dandelion.
DANDELIONZ is ...me (so I've registered it lol)

edited! due to Janine's overactive 'imagination'!

It's great to read about how people came to get the names for their businesses :D

The name for my business came to mind in a flash one evening and I said to dh "That's it" dh thought is was too long .. but I liked it, Mother's instinctively know what is best for their child and I felt it depicted what I was selling and the products I believe in.

I believe the name will come to you as well one day .. and good on you for taking the plunge! Opening a shop too is in my dreams, but at the moment my online business works well for me and a great way to get started. I will be moving house soon to have a dedicated showroom for my nappies as we are growing!

All the very best!
