How important is it that I pre-wash FOE?

I am going to make some covers today with FOE. I have heard that you should pre-wash the FOE before you sew with it.

This doesn't really make sense to me though since it is a synthetic product, and it is generally just natural fibres that will shrink in the wash.

So how important is it that I pre-wash the FOE? My covers normally get washed on cold, and occasionally they go in a warm wash with my flats and fitteds.

I never have and haven't had any problems
