diy snap in inserts

Post by daydream97 » Fri Jul 12, 2013 11:48 pm

ds usually had flat and mf booster in a pocket. im thinking of changing to a snap in system and making some snap in inserts -- so that its easier since im over stuffing pockets.

what would be the best and most absorbant without being too bulky etc? I like the candies inserts - they seem to last a while today for ds.

was thinking two layer 400g bamboo trifold? or should it also have a top layer of microfiber?

or would hemp fleece be better? (cheaper) or no difference? worse?

Last time I was using cloth nappies (a few months ago, when DD was about 14 months) I made some snap ins and modelled them off itti bittis, but made them slightly wider. 2 layer 400gsm bamboo trifold, and a shaped soaker over the top that was also 2 layers of 400gsm bamboo with suedecloth over the top. Worked pretty well, but I don't know what level of wetting you're dealing with.

yeah that's what I was thinking of doing --did you find them bulky or trim? I havnt seen 400gsm bamboo before irl, would it be similar type thickness to the hemp do you think?

should I be putting any m.fibre in there?

They were pretty trim, similar to itti bittis which were the trimmest nappy I used (didn't try Candies tho). I didn't bother with microfibre for most of them, think I tried sandwiching it between two bamboo layers on one shaped insert, but that made 4 layers including the suedecloth and that was a pain to sew. Not sure how thick the hemp you're using is :)

Actually, just had another look at the greenbeans site - I used 340gsm french terry bamboo, not 400gsm.
