which size covers to make?

Post by laura_lou27 » Tue Jul 30, 2013 8:22 pm

I am going to make some small covers to go over prefolds, I have a few questions

1. Which pattern is best for making covers?

2. Which size should I make? I am planning to start cloth when bub is 2wk- 1 month old and use prefolds and covers until bub fits well in OSFA mcns

3. how do I know how tight to make the elastic around the legs when I don't have a bub to try them on?

thanks

What kind of OSFA will you be using? If it's pockets you could just use those as covers KWIM?

Are you wanting a free pattern or a paid pattern?

Ditto's adjustable patterns are paid patterns and have a great fit.
The Wee Weka patterns are good free ones.

Size is quite tricky as it depends on the size baby is when born but I'd look more at a small size than a NB size.

Elastic is another tricky one especially when all elastics have a different amount of stretch. I tend to us about 12cm for a small size, 15 medium and 17cm for large.

If you need help I'm sure there is someone in your area who could help

I have a mix of itti bitti tuttos, tots bots easyfits, grovia hybrids so far but they seem like they would be bulky on a little one, and I don't think I have quite enough.

I don't mind if pattern is free or not, are any of the ones on here good?

hmm maybe I will need to borrow myself a newborn to try them on before I make like 6 of them

Most of my babies were large chubby things and went straight into 3mnth size clothing. My last was tiny and was in prem clothes so I ended up making her some prem size nappies. So it's really hard to gauge the size of your baby

It's been quite a few years since I have made nappies so can't remember the fit of the ones on here I'm sure they fitted as I used them for ages, just not sure at what age :D

Take a look at this http://www.bumbles.co.nz/categories/Do- ... -Patterns/

I've made this pattern and it works well.

Have fun sewing :D
