Best pattern for nb/small fitted nappies

Post by grizle » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:18 pm

Friends are having a baby next year and they have bought some pocket nappies but i thought some fitted ones might work better for the first couple months. What the best pattern for NB or small fitted nappies these days? Was there one that you overlock the edges? Would like to be able to use pocket nappies as covers if possible since they already have some.

Oh and how many layers and what combo of fabric works best? It's been a while since I had a NB in the house

It looks like Shars NB pattern to me.

I won't be testing these till January when baby number 2 arrives but I am making these patterns:

http://www.darlingdiapers.com/Darling%2 ... rn2009.pdf

http://prefold2fitted.blogspot.co.nz/se ... aper+cover
(small fitted pattern)

and a free rocket bottom fitted pattern but I can't find the link at the moment.

I am making them all stitch and turn but I think they can be made with an overlocked edge as well.

They all looked like they are different shapes and sizes but so are babies so hard to know which ones will fit best.

Did some hunting and found the darling diaper one last night. Will have a look at the other one linked too.

What's the best combo of fabric and how many layers work the best? I'm not going to be using or trying these myself so I need to know they have enough absorbency before hand.

Okay through some :detective: work I got mine from AgeP and she cant remember what the pattern was, she thinks it may have been a brought one, but I am sure she wouldnt mind if you PM her to discuss materials that she made them from.

But I swear by them for a newborn they where awesome and the small lasted me for ages with both kids.

Just came across this, as recently found out number 2 is on its way, and keen to use cloth from the beginning this time. NPMum, would love to hear how you found the three styles you tried! Also recommendations on fabric types and number of layers gratefully received :)

Unfortunately my baby didn't get to wear any of them :boohoo: She ended up in a hip splint and they wouldn't fit around it.
I will however take some photos for you, one of them was tiny and now resides on a doll, the rest are going to go to my cousin who is a cloth nappy fan and she will use them on her 2nd baby I have asked her to take photos of her baby in them so I know how they look, but that won't be for a while yet.

This is the technique I found best, it is a little tricky to start with as you need to make sure you don't catch the elastic but after trying a couple of other techniques I found this the quickest.
I made one serged but my overlocker couldn't easily handle the layers.

The page has closed so this is the cached version.
I also have it as a pdf if link doesn't work.

Have just taken some pics of my nappies so will upload them soon.

The prefoldtofitted pattern was tiny, I made the second one of them serged since I had already cut it out and it would have been prem size stitched and turned.

I like the Darling Diapers and the Rocket bottom.

My DD was in a hip splint till 8 weeks old and when she was out of it she wouldn't fit any of the nappies, she was 3.8kg at birth (8pound 5) and 5.2kg at 6 weeks, she wasn't weighed at 8 weeks.
