Pfaff Varimatic 6085?

Thoughts?

Am sadly losing MIL's Bernina 1230 once and for all, so I need to invest in something. Unfortunately, my budget isn't great and my taste is beyond my means... 8-[

Doesn't look like it has IDT. I would not buy a Pfaff without IDT - once you've used it it's hard turning back..

Just searched for expired Pfaff machines. I have this model (I have 4 Pfaff sewing machines :hide: all very old & bought cheap) and it is my most favourite of them all. I actually bought this one for the kids to use and love it so much I keep hogging it  (I have a 7570 which is newer & I paid more for it and it's still a good machine, but the 4169 is so lovely to use...) This listing may have sold elsewhere - you could ask a relist http://www.trademe.co.nz/crafts/sewing/ ... 456816.htm or email him via the contact details.

I have a pfaff varimatic though a model up from this one. It cost me $60 at an op shop and I took it in for a service and it had the wrong bobbin cage in it so after getting it all fixed up I ended up paying $240 in total (that includes the original price I paid). The mechanic who worked on it was very impressed and said to never part with it. Its an awesome machine and I love it so much. It sews like a dream. I would never be tempted to get rid of it and buy a new machine.

Arrggh, the angst!

Dunners, I was hoping you'd reply, because I know you're a Pfaff junkie and I have a feeling I could go that way myself. I don't need a fancy computerised machine, but I really want it to have a metal body, because I can be pretty hard on these things 8-[ I just want a good, solid machine that does what I want it to with no drama.

Macca, those look great, and really cheap!

Dredging up old posts.... and thinking about replacement sewing machines.

What did you end up getting Middy, and are you happy with it?

I ended up with an old Bernina. I can't remember what the model number is off-hand, but it's basic, metal bodied, and older than me  it hasn't balked at anything I've thrown at it yet, so I'm pretty happy with it. I paid a few hundred dollars for it on TM and bought it off a sewing machine repair man in Gore, who packaged it very carefully and couriered it up.

Hmm that's what I'm thinking to do. Trade in my $1000 Brother which I'm not enjoying at the moment for an old trusty Elna or Pfaff.
