Brother Lock 640D - anyone got one????

Postby sassydot » Wed May 28, 2008 8:47 am

I have a 760DE, it's fantastic.
According to the Brother seller/repairer here "definitely worth spending the money on" when I had to buy a new over looper (my fault not the machine's)

Congratulations on your new aquisition!

AliG wrote:Aha! Well I'll keep that in mind for when i break the news to him, then! I do have my Bernette 4 thread overlocker (no diff feed though) that has just been serviced if you want to borrow that one anytime :D

Let me know if you want to sell your old one as I might be keen depending on price (and my SIL lives in Wellington so I could get her to pick it up). Is not having diff feed a pain?

Yes, I will be selling it - I haven't got enough experience of overlocking to know if not having differential feed is a pain, sorry. I have made a few inserts, wipes, a bag and a pair of pyjama pants with it, though, and found it great.

Before me it was owned by an older woman who made clothes for people (including wedding dresses, I think), so it's been well utilised and well looked after :D

I'm not sure about price yet (I bought it recently as part of a package with a sewing machine and sewing cabinet), but will find out what would be fair and get back to you.

I paid $100 for the Brother 640D. It was a bargain!! I see there's one on Trade Me now that's in the high $100s (well, it was there a couple of hours ago - not sure what time it ends).

It's working well - I think it needs a service, but it going fine at the moment.

I've got my Bernina on Trade Me now - I totally forgot about this thread

Yes, I was looking at that, as well as a few other overlockers on trademe. I think I'm interested in the Janome overlocker from Palmie, so please everyone, don't bid against me.

You're just lucky I saw this thread before I saw the overlocker!!
I'm still looking, but don't really want to pay more than $100..

Speaking of the machine: does anybody have a problem with the threading? I think I have the wrong settings or something, because my outer thread seems to be so tight it gets cut. Does anybody know what they should be?
