Thread for Emroidery machines

Hi just another question.
Which embroidery thread do you use? Which brands are the best and do you prefer poly or rayon?
Thanks

I use polyester thread as it is supposed to be more hardwearing than rayon. Rayon on the other hand produces more vibrant colours I've read. I've got a set of Brother embroidery threads and also lots of Isacord cones. I got everything from ebay because it's so much cheaper there.

when I got my first machine I bought a whole load of cheap stuff from overseas.. but it was terrible.. broke all the time.
Since then I've mainly used rayon. Its a bit shinier and the colours are stronger. I used to get Sulky brand from Sotech.. by far the cheapest in NZ.. but I think they have closed down. There is some poly stuff at spotlight .. La Sarta I think maybe. Its ok... v v cheap on special and seems to wash up ok etc.

I think the 'recommended' brands are madeira, sulky and robinson-anton..and a few others .. but they can be really expensive.!!

Hi There
Thanks for the replies.
I am looking at getting some Gunold Polyester from a place in Auckland. The lady at the local shop where I bought the machine recommended Madeira but its $8.50 a cob  a little expensive for my taste. So I was looking at some of this www.abc-machine-embroidery-designs.com/ ... olors.html but was a bit worried it was too cheap  I guess that I will just have to try few and see what works.

The gunold poly should be good. Madeira is always hugely expensive. I'm not sure how anyone justifies that

Cheers for the link, I'll bookmark it :D Its an awesome price so worth trying some and seeing the quality!
I really very rarely use my embroidery machine so I haven't had to buy any thread in a long time.

Don't supposed you've found a place to get backings? :D
