a special Boy knit

I'm nearly ready to cast on something new for Ollie, using one of these 2 yarns:




They're both about the same weight, one is tosh dk and one is kona worsted however both would work as either DK or light worsted. I have roughly 200g of each

I'm looking for something a wee bit different, we have lots of Little Rascals variations and Tamas and Milos. I do have plans for a ziggy for him but not till next winter in woolganics... I'd really like something a wee bit different and special, pullover style is more practical at the moment as he fiddles so much with buttons and sucks on them etc, and easier to get something on quickly over his head than trying to do up buttons up the front
I feel liek I'm just seeing the same patterns over and over on Rav though and nothing is really jumping out, except maybe this one: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gramps-cardigan

Oh they're lovely. I'm having the same problem, got my collection.of patterns I always seen to use ( little rascals, tama, vertebrae...) And don't know where to start when I feel like something different lol

One of my favourite jerseys for James (then inherited by Will) is the Paton's Wee Willie Winkie. I love the neckline as it's warm & very easy. Not knitted in the round though you could adapt the lower body to be http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... ck-sweater Mum made a similar styled jersey for Will last winter with the same neckline in a mistake rib all over and it's my other favourite. Mum made the pattern up though.

Whoops, scratch that. I've just re-checked an you have 200 g. The wee willie pattern suggests 300 g for size 18 month so you won't have enough yarn. You could adapt for a vest maybe? Anyway, I have the pattern book if you want to borrow it.

I LOVE that neckline, in my ideal world I'd have something with that neckline, a nice cable pattern to make it extra special and knit in the round... because i know knitting flat and seaming just won't happen here... it would sit for yonks waiting for me to be bothered seaming

Maybe I just need to make something up? don't want to bugger it up with the nice yarn though!

Matariki is knit seamlessly with a shawl collar... i wonder if I should use that as a base and add some cables like on gramps? It starts at 18m size though so would probably be too big on O till next winter, and then he might be a 2 instead how much fiddling should i do on a pattern i haven't knit before...?

Would you just knit without the edging and pick it up later? how would you do the bit at the bottom of the edging where it meets the body... like the point where you join in the round?
I haven't done a shawl collar before so I'm having trouble working out that bit and so was thinking I'd just get a pattern with that bit and the seamless bit and mash the rest all together

I like the look of this pattern. http://www.pickles.no/oh-handsome-sweater/ If I ever learn how to knit in the round this is on my list of wants. I would need mum to translate what wool to use though. I think it could be DK.

I like that one too but it's double stranded 4ply i think, so perhaps single stranding these yarns would work ok? I think I got put off by reading through other people's pattern notes though...
