Inspire Me..... What to knit a 6yr old girl for winter

Post by nakigal » Tue Mar 04, 2014 6:59 pm

So I need to get onto DD1's winter wardrobe. She is 6.5yrs, tall and lean. I am at a complete blank as to what I should knit for her this year.

She is a bit of a cold frog so loves to wrap up warm. Last winter she loved coming home from school and getting changed into her fluffly trackies and a milo vest. But, she does like to dress up nice when we go out or if she has friends over. She wears a uniform to school so it is just something for weekends I am mainly after.

I knit her a paprika two years ago which still fit her last year and she thrashed that. I will definitely knit her another vest of some description this year, but I also need something with long sleeves. She loved the Olearia I knit her so perhaps I should just knit another one of those...... oh the choices.

Tell me what is on your needles or what you have plans to knit for the 6-7yr old girls in your lives.

Lavanda, I haven't knit this for either of my girls yet, but after knitting a few for others it is
definitely on my must knit list.

Oooo, I do like that Rachael, I am still a pretty new knitter tho and some of the project notes scare me a bit...... I should just put my big girls panties on and challenge myself.

Off to check out a katniss

If you did a paprika then Lavanda would be easy, it is raglan sleeve so a lot easier than the contiguous sleeves from paprika. Also go with the basic increases, and yell out if you need help. As I said I have knit a few now and have another to cast on in the next few days.

OK, I think you have convinced me. I do like the look of it, and I am sure DD1 will like it too.

I do like the Katniss too, might get my Mum to churn one of those out for her.

Thanks for the inspiration. Now to go yarn hunting. Suggestions?

100purewool is great, but you can't buy it anymore. Bendigo luxury 10ply, or madtosh worsted http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php ... ted-1.html

Can you really not buy Purewool anymore. Gosh, I am out of touch! I do love Bendigo for value for money, that is what her Olearia is knit from.

Madeline Tosh has some lovely colours, is it nice and soft?

Madtosh is really scrummy, it is 80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon and is machine washable.

I'm making my nearly six year old the largest size of a March Sisters dress, just adding a bit of length. She thrashed her other one I made when she was four, so I'm hoping this one gets as much use. Lovely for a pretty knit :)
