What wool to buy?

Any knitters still around here?

I've just purchased the Rainbow Dress pattern and want to knit my littlest Miss a dress for next Winter (she will be one). Can anyone recommend any great 8 ply yarns? I've looked at The Wool Company but I think I've already used most of their ones that I like and want something different. I'm not even sure if I want solid or variegated, just something that I can fall in love with. Because she's little I'd like something that isn't too scratchy. Any suggestions?

Red Riding Hood Yarns
Joolubug
Featherbrush

Gradient

A common base for the indie dyers is skeinz naked 8ply which is really lovely, softer than The Wool Company, but still great wearing.

On facebook a lot of ex TNNers (and other people) are in this group : https://www.facebook.com/groups/forthel ... ngswoolly/

I just got some from Koru Designs (on fb), and that's lovely and soft.

Midnight yarns are having a sale tonight of the KAN overstock. There are some beautiful yarns on there

The preview album, and then selling on her website.

Thank you for your input :) Looking through all those beautiful yarns has helped confirm what I'm looking for - I think I want something that is softly variegated - with TWC its pretty much either solid colours or variegated yarns with strongly contrasting colours. I really like the yarns that have a bit of interest without being too much - is that called gradient dyed or is that just another name for variegated? Anyway, I love some of those, especially the Midnight Yarns. A bit pricier than I would like for this particular project though, so still thinking on it!

It sounds like you might be looking for a semi solid. A gradient yarn is one that transitions from one colour to another gradually. e.g.

A semi solid is one main colour with subtle variations on the same colour which gives the colour more texture.

Ah yes, semi-solid probably describes it! Now to decide which one I actually want . . .
