DPNs are double pointed needles which you will need to get it down to the last 4 stitches or maybe you can use magic loop - but don't ask me I'm not hot on circulars!!

so did you do that pattern on straight needles helen? i don't think i'm that clever but would prefer to do it on flats.

Rachel, I did mine on flats - the same instructions apply just pearl on every second row.

oh ta helen

now i've only seen that girls have the ear flap hats, is it a girly thing? would it be ok on boys?

Ear flap hats would be fine for boys i think. I'd only seen them on boys till my niece had one.

Oh gosh that hat looks so scrummy. Love the blues. Unfortunately tho i get lost on the instructions. My Nana taught me to knit when i was a kid but its beyond me now LOL.

That's the type of hat i need, one i can tie onto his head that way it might stay there longer than 30 sec :roll:

OH no I've got right to the end...Instead of binding off the 4 stitches I've decreased to one stitch left on the needle..now I don't know how to cast that last stitch off..I'm all confused! :lol: Think I might need some help !!Gosh I feel so dumb! :oops:

Hi Carla

I usually just cut the end of wool I'm knitting with and feed it through the last stitch and pull the loop closed. Does that make sense?

Oh thanks Cath..I was thinking that but thought I needed the wool still attached to sew the hat together. I surpose it would be fine if I leave a long piece when I cut it. Thanks so much :D

Yay I have finished my first ever knitting project!! :D A few wee mistakes..but very cute!Now I can't wait to start something else. Has anyone else finished their hats?I'd love to see pics!Will try and get a pic of mine..when I work out getting pics on here that aren't huge!
