j-j wrote:While I'm here, are you able to update the lengths for rise/legs for the smaller sizes JJJ? I've gone and had a look through what people have done but there is quite a variety. For the smalls myself i think i did 16 cm rise, 16 cm legs, but having not got a model to try them on (and as they are a gift for someone else I'm not too sure if they are right)
What have others done?

Thanks!

oh yes, sorry! I did the same thing the other day, looked at what other people had done and yes it was confusing! I'll see if I can find my notes and add some sizes in. TBH for the legs I always just measured a pair of trousers... I might just have to raid my baby clothes stash for guidance

Kate E - opal is so scrummy! I have already added your sunset ones to my gallery

my baby is 13.5 months and about 11 - 12 kgs and has a (naked) waist measurement of 52cm and thighs of 33cms, she is moving into large nappies as mediums are getting way to tight on her thighs and some are getting low in the rise.
i have finally finished her never ending shorties using this pattern.
i cast on the XL number of stitches and as i like the waistband to be above the nappy i did the waistband and then did 19cm stocking stitch (measured at the front) before starting the gusset.
i did 6 rounds of stocking stitch on each leg and then 5 rounds of moss stitch and then cast off in moss st.
knitted in tekapo wisteria, which i like knitted up much more than i like in the ball.

these are big on her but only just cover the nappy at the back, so i am glad i kept knitting rounds before the gusset.

I am just about finished another pair, same reason as Kate. I hope they fit, I have had to guess the measurement. My measurement for the small ones I made for Mollie are a bit off. They fit her now really really well. They won't fit her in a few months, but my babies are tall and a good size at birth, she's already fitting 3-6 month clothes.

Here's my latest pair :)

Ginormous Amelia sized

And my Mum's latest pair on Amelia
Image

These were CO 120sts (I think). Mum did hers on 4mm needles, I did mine on 5mm needles. We both did huge rises (talking about 23cm here), but we wanted extra room to completely cover night nappy.
Mum's pair had a 13inch inner leg measurement - only just long enough
Amelia is about 15kg and 104cm tall at 2yrs 6months

Post by Julie » Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:00 am

Just wanted to say hello as I am new to the forum.... I have just bought the wool for this pattern and am looking forward to giving it a go for my 5 month old. I only have 40cm circulars as the shop did not sell 30cm, does this matter??? I am going to have to teach myself to knit on circulars, eek  , am only new to knitting, but loving it!!! Thanks for the free pattern.hhtp/liseasitisforus.blogspot.com/

its gorgeous isn't it! believe it or not thats just "scraps" from her stash. I wish my scraps all colour-coordinated so well!

actually, having a closer look at it - I think I recognise the blue/green/purple variegated yarn. Kelly is that the stuff I dyed ages ago for you?

ANNIE! Be kind to your self woman! Aroha's shorties are beautiful!

Thankyou everyone for the kind words :) They are my 'princess and the pea' longies (well, shorties).
And nope Nikki, not self striping stuff, as Jenny said they were 'scraps' (well, part balls) from my stash. I wasn't brave enough to do completely random colours, I took the scaredy cats way out and found colours in a similar vein and did them together :) Blogged here http://incidentalhappiness.wordpress.com/2008/07/13/the-princess-and-the-pea/

And YES Jenny, that gorgey wool is the stuff you did for me! I still have alittle bit more hiding away too 8-) It has been 2 soakers, a wee bag, and now stripes on these longies. Who knows what the remnants of it will become
The PLum/blue stuff is hand-dyed by me, and the rest is all plain colours :)

Oh and the photography was 'inspired' by the header on VanJeffrey's blog

Some one else please do Prince/ss and the Pea longies so I don't feel like such a miserly retard hoarding all my scraps

Welcome!
You can do the body on 40cm circulaars, but the legs will need to be done on 30cm or DPNs.
WHere do you live chook, there is bound to be someone local who would be able to help you with learning if you ask :) Or ask on here, there are many of us knitting nutters who can point you in the right direction. HEaps of us have knit this wonderful pattern by JJJ now so can give you a hand if you get stuck. Just sing out :)
