I've just about finished this hat but don't understand how to finish it, what do I cast onto? Can I just crochet around the edges instead? (Once I find a god vid on youtube explaining it lol)

Either crochet the edge or pick up stitches as per the pattern :D

I've started a new born hat and was wondering if there a different amount of stitches between earflaps like a front and back or are they supposed to be even? As I have used backward loop cast on and joined into the round. To me it looks wrong..
