milo, milo, milo.... yarn quantity resource

milo, milo, milo.... yarn quantity resource

Postby growingclothie » Fri Jul 24, 2009 3:55 pm

Can anyone please help with the amount of grams 8ply that milo takes in different sizes, trying to think of ways to use my stash

Just finished my first milo the other day (size2 - though looks like it will fit H till he is more like 4yr old as it is tunic length at the moment and looks rather dress like on him  ). Will put a pic in my gallery later. The size 2 took just on 150grams.

Am looking at doing another in NB, 3mth, or 6mth size but need to know if I have enough yarn/ what yarn to use.

Has anyone done one in vintage hues? That is another option I am considering

My size 2 took 120grams of Utiku.

I have a heap of Vintage Hues too, so may look at doing one in this.

At lunchtime I started a size 4. My 2.5yr old has a 23inch chest so according to the pattern thats the size for him.
I'm using Perendale Naturally in a nice deep brown, not sure how long its going to take me to knit it up but will let you know how much wool I end up using.

I used JUST over 100g for my 6 mth sized one. It was a slightly chunky wool though (supposedly 8ply. but felt a bit thick to me), and whenever I've used it before used slightly over what the pattern suggests.

thanks ladies, keep the stats coming, I might change the thread name so people can use this as a resource... I find ravelry a bit frustrating with talk of yards, skeins, etc. I would much rather know grams or metres

Any NB measurements? I have two colours (two tones of same colour really) that I have 10grams of and one with 50grams, and am wondering if I could get away with bodice in 10grams, body with the 50grams wool and bottom garter with the other 10grams

No wonder mine is too big for H, it actually would fit Z over a long sleeved t-shirt quite nicely but he refusses to try it on for me. I did it on 4.5mm needles, but that is what I always knit 8ply with.

Are you quite a tight knitter?

Im pleased you started this up, I was curious how much wool everyone had to use for it. I have bought 2 50g balls to make a size 2, but realise I am 99% sure I will need the extra ball. I need to finally cast on soon....

Not terribly but I do swing that direction with smaller needles. The main size issue with it is in the length, and that is because I wanted to complete the third owl, but could have got away with 2 in hindsight

I used 120gm for my size 2 milo. I am a tight knitter.

I plan on knitting a size 4 for my older boy using 4.5 needles to make it bigger enough for him.

I used Charity wool to make a NB and used 50gm although it did end up kinda short next to another one I looked at?

Used under 120g of utiku for a size 2 with size 3 length.
