At lunchtime I started a size 4. My 2.5yr old has a 23inch chest so according to the pattern thats the size for him.
I'm using Perendale Naturally in a nice deep brown, not sure how long its going to take me to knit it up but will let you know how much wool I end up using.

Wow! I didnt at all think he was a size 4, but I guess with your tighter knitting and everythign it should turn out perfect.... looking forward to seeing the results

mm I was surprised as well, so measured him twice and he is def 23 inches - he must be fat-chested
So yes I'm wondering if it might end up being too big for this year, however I guess I can decide that by controlling the length I knit.

I used just over 60gms of Woolganics for my newborn one, (using 4.5mm needles as I am a tight knitter) and for the 18mth one I used about 110gms or so with the same 4.5mm needles.

If so, I used 44gms TWC Gems for a 3mth Milo .

Yep, unless of course you added buttons or something else to it.

I used a 50g ball for my NB size.

i'm doing a 3mo at the moment and it will take about 60g I think. Had to change colour for the bottom as the shop ran out of the colour I was using

It is definately looking hopeful for me to get the newborn one done with the wool I have - just a little unsure if I will be able to finish the complete bodice with only 10grams

Maybe we need an identical thread for the rainbow dress as I always wonder if I have enough of different colours for that too

Just BEWARE of going by yarn weights if you are using a different yarn! I'm just finishing a test knit for someone and have also just knitted another pattern where I subbed one 8 ply for another and needed an extra 50g of yarn to get the correct amount! These were both baby items too one sized 0-6m and the other 6-12m. It's always safest to work in meterage (or yardage) rather than weight because some yarns vary hugely, eg merino is lighter than 100% wool so you get a lot more in 100g etc etc.

Anyway after that rant/warning I used 64g or 122m of utiku plain yarn for a 3m milo. That is a lot more than Katydid's one though, I think I weighed yarn left rather than garment. My scales might be a bit dodgy too and I've now gifted it so can't check

ETA actually it may depend a bit on which cable you do as well. That was with the owl cable.

I've done 2 milos, both size 18 months.

First one was done in Utiku, and took 98gm (186m) but was possibly on the short side

Second one was done in BWM Classic and took 110gm (220m)

The NB ended up with the two 10gram greens doing most of the bodice and the brown did the rest
