ok, so now im confused... i just went back and read about it and am wondering if maybe they treat the yarn differently when they make it into yarn because this is what is said about the 100% hemp :

Our long line wetspun yarns are vibrant in color and provide outstanding drape and longevity. They are dyed using reactive dyes & are mercerized for color fastness and ultimate softness and sheen.

Available in skeins...this is our most popular yarn!

This 100% hemp yarn is a perfect weight for delicate knits as lace work and lightweight clothing. It provides exceptional drape and is lovely & light-weight for warmer months or elegant wear all year round.

It is meant to be nice once washed, so either that is what they mean or they're processed it to be silky before knitting. Maybe email them and ask them if it is soft in the hank?

Amie is it Allhemp6? The Ravelry comments suggest it is stiff in the hank but some people have had success with washing before knitting:
