What are you knitting/crocheting for Christmas gifts?

Postby Dunners » Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:43 pm

I really need to get sorted with gifts for ladies & little people in our lives. Preferably small projects due to the number to get through in a few weeks. (Would you give a winter hat for Christmas? :? )

What are your gift project plans? Rav links appreciated ;)

ETA: kids ages range from 6 months to 12 years (mostly girls, some boys).

I'm working furiously on a Travelling Woman shawl for my DH's grandmother.

Just found out there will be at least three more kids at Christmas lunch from the extended family, perhaps five, so I thought I might do star tree decorations for them or to put on presents as decorations. I've made this one before:

But am thinking I might try these:

I was also thinking about some felted bowls. Having never made them before I'm not sure how quick they are, though.

Dishcloths for kindy teachers
Vest/aviatrix sets for nephews
Perhaps puffy sleeved shrugs for nieces
And then sewing capes for more nephews.

A Benji hat would go down well I think? also the superhero hats I knitted for all the nieces and nephews were very popular indeed! Especially seeing as a whole bunch of kids all had them, it made it more fun http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Whatu/zsa-mask

In terms of what I'm knitting, I have finished an Oriental Lilly and a Tama, and I'm half way through Asa http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/asa-2 for family members living in a very cold part of the world (and I've missed the first Christmas posting deadline :gaah: )

And some scarves for the teachers, and a shawl for an aunt who will be hosting us for a holiday (and perhaps some dishcloths for my uncle? But does that look like we expect him to have lots of cleaning up after us?)

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot I had them on my knitting list for the kids for Christmas, must remember to do them next, thankfully I'm about to cast off a couple of bigger projects ready to do little things before Christmas

Toys. http://mummyzilla.blogspot.com/2011/10/roar.html I've also knitted a pig, and I am supposed to be knitting some food for J.

There are heaps of patterns on Ravelry and they're pretty fast to knit - but can be a bit of a pain to stuff and piece together.

I've just about finished a garden city scarf for my Mum, so that's one down. I'd got plans for a few cardigans and jumpers for small members of the family, and then I found this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/constance-7 which I now HAVE to knit for Lena, so everything else might have to go out of the window.
If I get five minutes I may make my brother this squashed rat book mark, as I think he'll find it funny:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... d-bookmark

And I need to do another book mark of some description, preferably crochet as I want something on the go that's not knitting for a swap I'm doing. Any suggestions??

I'm not doing that much this year, but I'm doing a cotton tropical fish skirt (pink/purply gradient) for kaia http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... fish-skirt and for my cousin's daughter a puffy sleeved shrug http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library ... eved-shrug and probably thats it  I'm being a real slack bum this year but I have lots of other projects on the go which have a bit of a deadline.
