Stupid question .....Boucle knitting

Stupid question .....Boucle knitting

Postby mumtotwo » Fri May 18, 2012 11:46 pm

I had picked up some wool to dye and got tempted by some beautifully soft merino boucle . Trouble is , I'm having trouble finding patterns for it and you HAVE to use a pattern specifically for boucle right ? can't use any other type ( the other problem is I've discovered there's no metreage / yardage on it but I guess if I ring they might be able to tell me that )

Boucle is hideous to knit, especially if you need to undo any of it.

You can use any pattern with boucle - it'll just change the way the knit fabric looks :).

what type of garment did you want to knit? I find any fancy yarn harder as I don't want to keep looking at my knitting - but to be honest a new knitter will be looking anyway, so you may not find it too bad ... just don't make a mistake as like kylie says it's terrible to undo. I just put some up for sale - along with hats I made little swing jackets with collars (for friends twins) and they looked great - however I modified a pattern so can't send you that sorry, but may have something else I could send you.

I knitted a dress for DD in boucle and I love it, you can't tell it is knitted it looks fab. But, it was a PITA to knit with as you can't see very easily what you have knitted.

If you're pretty new to knitting, I'd leave the boucle for a bit personally? But yes, you can knit anything with it, though the fabric might not come out as you expect. I'd gauge swatch first :)
