Simple 4ply baby vest

Post by anotherhopeful » Fri Jun 15, 2012 1:38 pm

What would you suggest?

My friend wants me to teach her to knit, which I am thoroughly pleased about, but she bought 4ply.. (I haven't even tried 4 ply yet!) and I'm having a hard time finding simple vests in it... (I have found some lovely lace stuff I want to try soon, but we better not run before we can walk :) )

the adam vest is easy

or you could double strand it to make the knitting faster for a first timer

I'd encourage her to buy a few balls of 8ply tbh, 4mm needles are much nicer to learn with. Knitworld's having a sale at the moment if she needs yarn :)

Mum tried to teach me with 4 ply and I found it really difficult when starting out. I found it much easier with 8 ply. Also, I'd avoid black/navy if working at night until she has an idea of what the stitches do.

I might be generous and let her use some of my 8ply. I've got some left over from projects that aren't planned as yet... I don't want her to give up :D

There's a thing on tomorrow at Skeinz for Knit in Public Day too. Something like Pebble is great as it's quick and contains several techniques.
