Baby blanket help

Post by Tentacles » Fri Aug 03, 2012 10:36 am

I am going to knit a blanket for a very special friend and need to get onto it ASAP ass baby is due soon. I have had all sorts of issues deciding on colour, yarn and pattern. I like this one but would a worsted weight blanket be too heavy for a spring summer baby? I plan on doing carseat/pram type size. I have always had 4 or 8 ply blankets and shawls so have no idea. I could do it in a lighter yarn weight but would need to go buy yarn today really.

Have you seen kelly brookers new blanket pattern baby sunshine? Thats a good size for pram and caraeat, you could make it a bit bigger easily, and it takes no time to knit either

It'll be lovely, I have a double stranded 8ply one for David who was born Feb and it was fine. You use a blanket heaps anyway for the first year - over strollers and all that. What a beautiful pattern, can't wait to see your FO!

You could knit a thick 8ply I.e. Urban on larger needles i.e. 5mm for gauge and drape.

I made a 12ply stroller/bassinette/car seat blanket for Master F, born in March this year, and he has had heaps of use out of it right from day one. I think we'll use it right through next winter too, in the stroller as a lap blanket, so wouldn't worry too much about worsted weight.

ETA: Plus the lace holes give it a bit of breathing room.
