Overlocking chiffon

Post by Megan » Thu Sep 22, 2011 8:40 pm

:twitch: A friend wants me to overlock around the edges of some chiffon wings she's making but I can't get it looking any better than a dog's breakfast. Any advice?

**shudder**

My old overlocker was ghastly at anything remotely shimmery or silky. Actually, it hated most fabrics that weren't 100% cotton if you didn't hold your mouth right, say 50 Hail Marys, and face West when operating it

So I say try another machine, providing you have already tried adjusting tension etc.

Helpful, aren't I?

Yes, that is helpful! I've done the Hail Mary thing but I have been facing east so clearly that is the issue here.

I think I am just going to give it back to her and suggest she go and buy some 8-[ .

Try using 3 thread. Are you going for a rolled hem or typical overlocking? You could try a rolled hem foot on your sewing machine maybe? Or ummmmm run very fast the other way :smt044

Oh fray stop glue stuff, that's my other lame suggestion 8-[

I think I am just going to leave it and she can sort it some other way, after all SHE's the one who wanted to make them rather than buy them  . Meanie, aren't I!

I've had limited success sometimes with turning the blade off so the fabric gets rolled under even more
