Janome tension problem

Post by ditto » Thu May 31, 2012 9:23 pm

I have a Janome 6260 QC. The top tension has to be up so high that the thread often breaks (on 7). I have tightened the bobbin tension as far as it goes.

I did take it in to the shop a few months ago and it came back like that - very annoying. Any idea of how to fix it? I still have about 90 nappies to sew and can't afford to have the thread breaking all the time.

My janome 6600 has the same problem . Looking forward to seeing if anyone has any ideas. Unlike yours I haven't had it serviced ( and I admit to completely disassembling the tension dial and it's never been the same since  - cant even remember why I did that but there was a good reason  )

Maybe I misunderstood your post but wouldn't you want to loosen off the bobbin tension? Ie the goal is to get the thread twist point in the middle of the fabric layers so if your bobbin tension is tight then the top tension has to be tight as well to "pull" up the bottom thread into the fabric. So maybe loosen them both off?

Craftsy had an advertisement for a sewing machine 911 class that might have some ideas.

You are right - I realised that during the night sometime, sjl! I will loosen it but don't think it will fix it completely.

Shorty, I did the same - hence taking it in to get it fixed  It came back working but with very tight top tension.

And thanks for the offer, Casey. DH reminded me that I lent my grandmother's old machine to a friend up the road so will ask for it back if need be.
