Ideas of how to quilt this?

Post by jennyo » Thu Oct 18, 2012 1:09 pm

Hi helpful quilters
I've just finished piecing my 2nd quilt (have also done 2 table runners but am still pretty new at this quilting lark). I'm not sure how to quilt it though. I did stitch in the ditch on my first runner. My first quilt I used random straight lines all over and I attempted FMQ loops on the other runner (which I did get pretty good at in the end since I did them way too dense and it took me HOURS to do!!).
Any ideas on what I should do for this one?

Ugh just realised I should have put the cars in a different order so the bottom and top ones face to the right and the middle row face to the left. Blah!

It looks awesome!
i'm in no way an expert, i've only done two quilts myself.
if it were me, i'd probably either just do loops over the whole thing, or maybe just parallel lines going width-wise over it, an inch or so apart.
have fun!

I finished this a few weeks ago but have just taken a picture of it. I'm mostly happy with it - and will definitely learn from my mistakes!!

Well done! It looks awesome! And the 'learning by doing' part of it is helpful too- it's good to know what worked and what didnt for next time :)

It's Riley Blake "Peak Hour". The cars are part of that range but I bought them separate from the charm pack. I got it from http://sewpretty.co.nz/ and it was only $10 for half a metre which I was impressed with!!
(just looking on their website now, I can't find it though :? - maybe they're out of stock - I did see if at a few NZ online shops when I was looking. I just choose this one because they're Chch based)

Fabulous! What a fantastic quilt, well done you!

I'm starting to crave quilting time again now that the school term is coming to a close. I just have to finish the back of James' quilt & then I can put my new homemade extension table to the test...
