Skirt to toddler pants in 5 minutes!

Post by pixeldust » Thu Feb 14, 2013 7:42 pm

Had to share this, as I am stoked how they turned out.

I got a large sized skirt ($10) from Valleygirl specifically - I saw it and loved the stripes (I am a sucker for them) and that it was the nice thick material which makes for great pants (but tends to be expensive from Spotlight).

I used this free toddler pants pattern. Well, when I say used, I just looked at it to remind myself of the right shape, and cut each side of the skirt to match.

Overlocked each leg together from the crotch to the bottom hem, turned one leg right side out and put it inside the other (this will make sense if you have ever used a one piece pants pattern) then overlocked the last seam waist to waist.

Done. No hemming the bottoms. No threading elastic through casing or trying to tension elastic and overlock it on the waist as it was already done!

And they literally took me 5 minutes from sitting to cut the fabric to finished, and of course because they have been hemmed in a factory, they look perfect. Anyway, had to share in case anyone else wanted to try something similar :)
