Adult tee to baby romper

Post by pixeldust » Sat Feb 16, 2013 7:16 pm

Some might have seen this in my homemade gallery, just reposting with more pics in case anyone wants to try it.

Image

I didn't use a pattern or tutorial, but it was fairly basic. I selected a small sized mens tee (to get the smallest neck size) then overlayed one of Zs tshirts, and a pair of his pants and cut around them for the overall romper shape, leaving seam allowance and some room for error and stretch.

The neck was still slightly too wide, so I pinned, cut and restitched to make the neck smaller. In hindsight I probably should have done an envelope neck instead.

Image

Hemmed the arms, stitched down the sides. I used some of the leftover fabric from the tee which I had cut off the sides to make a kind of bias binding for the crotch, then added snaps.

Image

I did find when I went to try it on Z it was a touch tight as I didn't allow enough for the tee being less stretchy than his normal clothes, so I did have to add some more fabric around the underarms to give more room to squeeze him in, but I won't show the steps for that because it was my stuff up.

Image

I can add better photos and instructions next time if anyone is interested, as I will no doubt make another, this was just a trial run and learning exercise.

Great idea. And what a cute model
