What can you make to give as a welcome to a new baby?

Post by Resse » Thu Mar 14, 2013 4:31 pm

My DH's cousin has just had a wee baby girl - cute as!!
I would like to make her something, but not sure what?

For her previous babies, I have made cloth nappies and wipes - but she doesn't use them AT ALL - so I am not wasting material on that anymore...

I was thinking some sort of clothing - I have been looking in some ottobre mags. I am after something quick to make, and practical. It would be nice to see a gift actually worn.
Any ideas?

I tend to knit tunic type tops for baby girls.
If you particularly want something sewn, how about a shirred top/dress for next summer? And a pair of matching cloth shoes..
Baby shoes out of velour fabric. Plus blanket out of the same stuff? Velour bibs? There's a few ideas :)

Fabric bunting would be easy and super cute, they could hang it by her bassinet/cot/bed :vibes:

LOL absolutely no idea now. I may have a cut out pattern floating around but more than likely the bits have become separated from each other. Such is my organisation. Maybe try google for a pattern. free baby shoes or something http://www.tackyliving.com/article.php?id=121
this was bookmarked but not sure if I actually used it....

Not clothing but you could make some appliqued bodysuits to go with :D ??

Thinking back to the things I have been given I loved bibs in funky fabric (particularly something that is slightly darker in colour so doesn't stain as quickly) and those wee shoes with elastic around the top (bobux style). With Kade I was also given a merino wrap and matching wee hat and absolutely loved them :D

Yes, baby shoes. They are SO simple to make, you could easily churn out a couple of pairs. Not sure on my pattern either as it is 5yrs old. But a quick search on Pinterest I found this.....

ETA, or a baby blanket. Spotty has Minky Dots on special at the moment.

Another great idea is make a wrap sling like a moby - super easy if you find the right fabric with the right amount of stretch (for the right price lol)- just cut it to the right size! :)

This is the pattern I think I made a slight variation so I didn't need to do as much top-stitching.
I make them with a matching bandana bib.

Other ideas-tag toy, applique/stenciled onsies, crochet/knit hat, hooded towel.
