has anyone seen a pattern like this...

Post by Claire » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:32 pm

I'm really keen to make missy a wool dress with front pleats but having trouble finding a pattern
I want it to look something like this simplicity pattern with the little collar

or a bit like this but a different top:
http://www.babydivine.co.nz/index.php?p ... &Itemid=71

anyone seen a pattern anything similar that I could tinker with?. The pleats are a bit outside my drafting skills

Very sweet pattern!

The vintage patterns with some sort of bodice pleating that I have are Simplicity 6866 in a size 3
http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/Simplicity_6866

and Simplicity 9344 in a size 6
http://www.etsy.com/listing/82022886/si ... pe=gallery

ETA actually I retract the use of the word "Vintage", they're actually patterns from the late 70s and I dare not call us vintage :rotfl:

LOL.. I dunno L.. I feel rather vintage lately :rotfl:

9344 might work eh. I was thinking deeper pleats .. do you think that would be hard to change?

you could buy one of my enid gilchrist books ... they don't have patterns but they tell you how to draft your own and these two have dresses / tunics with pleats ... http://madelinesrose.bigcartel.com/prod ... intage-2nd or http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ENID-GI ... 0748233983 sorry being lazy about photos and photobucket and all that carry on!!

wanting $7 each for them - can scan you the pages about tunics if needed ... just need to get this little person to bed!

I've heard such great things about those books. Drafting is just too much like work at the moment though :hide:

oh yeahhhhhh.. I have been drooling over that for sooo long. Everyone really rates her patterns. I always get put off by the price though. Maybe I should just suck it up and spend some money for a change 8-[
Where did you buy it from?

Another way to do it is to get a bit of fabric as long as you want it from shoulder to bottom and as wide as you want at the bottom, then sew the pleats in first, then cut the bodice bit out. Kind of the same way you'd do it with a smocked dress.
