:( HELP snap removal on fine fabric
Posted: Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:16 pm
I have just put one of the last snaps on my wool cover I am making...but the edge of the inside stud bit has cracked off and won't snap into the socket.
I have put an outer layer of fine knit merino on the cover, and I am afraid if I put it sideways in the press and squash it to get it out I am going to make a big hole in my fabric.
Any other ideas for getting this snap out without ruining the cover (and my expensive fabric??)
It such a shame, its such a lovely feeling cover, so soft .... :smt022 Why oh why does this always happen at the last few snaps??

I've removed snaps before by cutting them with my fabric scissors.

Put it back in the press and squash it down really really hard. It sometimes pops the pointy bit right through so it just falls off. Don't try squashing it sideways because it will make a hole in the merino (btdt).

drill out the middle with a fine drill bit - works every time
Better yet, get DH to!

ah poo - I had thought of drilling it out.... will try that next time.
I ended up (am vy impatient) attacking it (tho vy carefully) with scissors but the faffing around and sharp bits of plastic did make a small hole in it....
But I have managed to save it, by making some reinforcing bits and sewing them as a flap over it.
will post a pic in a minute

Thats a really nice nappy. I love the woolen covers. I'll have to keep my eyes out here in WA for a good fabric store.

The inside (the main working bit of it) is wool from zayarn (designerbums). I think she might still have some nappy cuts left (on the WAHM thread). I covered the inner & outside of it with very lightweight merino knit that I bought of trademe, just for more softness, and I like the stripes. (the only reason I covered the inner was to colour match with the outer
It works well, and is lovely and soft
