Greenbeans quality reviews - alternatives?

I was looking at placing my first order of fabric with greenbeans, when I came across quite a number of negative reviews. Bad service reviews are disappointing to hear, but what I was more concerned about was the poor quality reviews. I don't want to spend hours sewing a stash of nappies only to find they are not as effective as they could be due to poor fabric quality. I would love to hear customers experiences with their fabric quality, especially if you have had the opportunity to compare it to other products. Also, can anyone recommend alternative suppliers? I am just wanting to make newborn fitteds, so don't need heaps of fabric.

My understanding is that they had a bad batch of microfleece which caused wicking and they also had some that was very thin. I've never had a problem with their fabrics, but I don't like microfleece in nappies and used either suedecloth or minky as the stay dry layer, both of which I like.

Were there bad reviews on any of their other fabrics? It's been about 2-3 years since I have purchased from them as my youngest is 5.5 years.

Thanks for that clarification! The reviews I saw didn't specify what fabric, just generally complaining about quality. And I notice they now have different white micro fleece, in two weights.

I would steer away from the microfleece and stick with suedecloth.

I recall a while back they had a group of mothers from another forum get their knickers in a twist about something unrelated and they started pack posting negative reviews all over the show. Really really nasty.

I'd be interested to know your reasons for preferring suedecloth to microfleece. I've had pockets with microfleece and itti bittis with suede cloth, and have much preferred the microfleece, in terms of feel and stretch.

Yeah, what I saw did seem pretty nasty and a little extreme, hence I was really only interested in hearing peoples quality experiences, not so much the 'bad service' side of things!

I haven't bought from there in a long time. Spotlight has nice micro fleece too, and i've never had a problem with it. I prefer it over suede cloth too, as suede cloth didn't seem to draw the moisture out as easily.

Ive always had great service from them - very helpful on the phone and I think they do strive to make sure their fabrics are good quality.

That's sad to hear. I haven't bought any thing from there recently but the fabric I do have from a few years ago is good quality and the service was good too.

I preferred it non-stretchy as I found it a lot simpler to sew than stretchy microfleece. I also liked the feel of it more. Most of my nappies were suedecloth right from the start, and the few microfleece ones I had seemed to pill a lot more.

I've bought quite a bit from them at various times over the last 6 1/2 years. I've never had any quality issues but have had lots of good service and bargains. Once I had the wrong pink PUL sent but they promptly and happily sent the correct one without issue. I've noticed over the years that whenever they have encountered any quality issues they have actively worked at resolving it and owned up to any problems. They're the only place I purchase from these days as they have such a good range and it's easy.

Thanks everyone, I'm so relieved to hear that people overwhelmingly have good things to say! It certainly makes life easier as minkylicious.co.nz don't have everything I want, and freight is pretty extreme if ordering from overseas!! One happy relieved mama here!

I've never had any problems with them or the quality of fabrics. I still buy all my minky from them for using as quilt backing. Great service and quality.

I bought all my fabrics from Greenbeans -I guess the bulk was 7 years ago and the next couple of years after that. Service was always great. The nappies had 4 years of HARD use for two kids and still could probably have made it through another child if necessary. No issues with weight or pilling of microfleece.
