I know, silly aye. I wanted to get a few things from there, but postage is not worth it. You could probably co-op it with 5 or 6 people, and cut down the postage.

Cottons from Hawthorne Threads work out OK with shipping. You need to buy a few yards worth though. But definitely cheaper than good quality cottons are in NZ.

Take a drive over to Uncle BIlls in Porrirua every now and then. They have random stock and it would be cheaper than the $60 US postage to make the trip.

um, yeah, that one, Totally meant pete's emporium. Uncle BIlls is next to spotty in Porirua and sells all sorts of junk and goodies but no fabric.

Hawthorne threads is pretty reasonable postage wise but keep an eye on the postage rates because it jumps up at certain intervals, so if you get the maximum amount of yardage within a postage bracket it works out pretty nicely :)

from what i've experienced recently, fabric.com shipping on COTTONS is not toooo bad. My last $200 order cost $50us to post - but it was all cottons. As soon as I add knits, cords and anything that was heavier than cotton (which is pretty much everything else) the shipping jumps dramatically. So although they have a lovely selection of knits, I don't think its reasonable to buy them from there lol

with my last fabric.com order I was going to end up with crazy postage too but if you fiddle and tweak the quantities in the last page then you can figure out what the maximum is before jumping up to another shipping price bracket - like mavis said about hawthorne threads.
my last order I got 10yd of fabric shipped for 25USD - 1yd was cotton, 3yd was flannel and 6yd was a heavy canvas so I thought that was pretty good. But just another .5 yd of cotton was going to make it USD38 to ship.

also watch some of the cords especially the prints - they have been a much lighter weight fabric than I've expected.
