where can I get embroider stabiliser?

Post by Claire » Wed Sep 12, 2012 10:52 am

anyone with an embroidery machine know where I can get cheap stabiliser? Doesn't need to be great quality - just standard medium weight will do.
There are a few people around that sell cuts but none of them fit my large hoop
Cheers :D

I came across this website when I was looking for someone to do embroidery for me - they seem to have a big range of stuff but I don't know enough about it to know how the quality or price stack up though.

I just use various weights of interfacing and only use the proper stuff for the likes of towels where I then buy the dissolving stuff from our local janome shop.

Hi Claire
I buy all of my embroidery supplies from www.JohnRainger.co.nz
He sells in 10 metre lots only. I just bought some standard weight tearaway and delivered to me was about $35 dollars for 90cm x 10m.
He sell all kinds so you can email them and they might be able to help.
I love the Gunold Poly that they sell awesome quality and 1/2 the price of Spotty

No worries Claire, They are really awesome to deal with. You can email them and ask for samples too so you can choose exactly what you want. :D They have wadding and stuff too for quilts etc.

Oh I thought I was onto someone in NZ with the John Rainger site but he only sells wholesale. I've just bought awesome solvy from World Weider on Ebay. So much cheaped than NZ. I'm about to order some stabaliser from them too. Paying $7.99 for 1 metre at 90cm wide from Spotlight is a rip off.

I definately don't buy wholesale. :D Minimum order is 10metres for things like stabilisers etc but for all my cottons I only ever buy one of each colour. Have you emailed him? because I have never had any trouble.

I usually buy mine from the UK. A 10 metre roll of Madeira cotton soft stabiliser for GBP10 plus a very reasonable shipping fee. And there are heaps of online shops that don't charge you VAT, so that's another 20 % saving.

I've just ordered mine on ebay. 500 of 10"x12"sheets of tear away, which I prefer, and 20 sewing machine embroidery needles $130.00 NZ including shipping. That should keep me busy for a while. This works out to be around 55 metres. My solvy 20 yard x 12" was $29.00 NZ including shipping. They usually arrive in 1 week.
It's so wrong that NZ sells them for so much more as I would love to support NZ shops.

Just adding that my embroidery thread arrived from Thread Art . com. I'm really pleased with it. Works out to be $2.00 per spool,1000 metres each. This includes postage. Plus it's lovely strong thread. I can't wait to use them. I got a trial pack of 40. :D
