SO TNN what do you think?

Post by Laura » Fri May 28, 2010 12:43 pm

i had a idea and thought i would start a new thread on it.
so we have hundreds of nappies that have been lovingly donated to TNN
how about we give some back to TNN?
i was thinking how awesome it would be if we had a WELCOME to TNN pack (maybe 2 or 3 nappies)
that we randomly sent to new TNN members as a hey thanks for joining and using cloth we have a present for you?
at least we know that they have joined to learn more about cloth so they are highly likely to be used!
what do you think???

we could send a email out to the new members and welcome them with the OFFER of some second hand nappies in good condition and it could be up to them to reply
We could sell off the really nice nappies in the kit to fund the postage?

this wouldnt be for all the nappies - we would still have a bums in need scheme but i think it would be a lovely way to give back

I guess my thought is, what condition are the nappies in? It would be some welcome to get stuff that is nearing the end of its life, or stained or whatever. Some people really don't do second hand nappies....

I dunno... alot of newcomers to cloth are pretty icky about using 2nd hand nappies (and I assume most of these are) so might just put them aside and never use them?

most of the nappies are in great condition and we were thinking of making up nappies with all the fabric sitting around
it could just be offered to people cause they would have to send their address anyway

I'm not sure. I thought that Te Awhina was separate from TNN (in that the nappies were owned by Te Awhina not TNN). Some people who've donated nappies to Te Awhina may not be keen on the idea of them being given away to TNN'ers.

I have posted over in your other thread with some ideas. I think we should keep these nappies with Te Awhina with the possibility of giving nappies away to people on TNN who are truly in need of them (they would need to apply not just put their hand up IYKWIM?).

No to welcme packs, sounds like a nice idea for the forum community - set up a (r)aok club sewing new naps as gifts... to me it doesnt fit with te awhina.

putting asside some to gift to those in urgent need through pregancy help or a free budget service? packs of 8 for part time use... gifts, no strings.

keep the naps in the best condition that will last longest for the kits. Other fundraisers might be to get donated new naps/accessories to raffle/auction. I've got a couple of naps cut out that i would finish and donate towards te awhina fundraising.

Not sure on this idea - I think it has the potential to get way out of hand.....ie: people joining just to get free nappies to be never seen again, and also people taking the nappies then selling them on......

I also don't know abut the 2nd hand thing.....lots of people prefer to use new.

I like the idea but perhaps as a "im in desperate need" type scenario :)

More of a Koha to members in need?

I know I was desperate last year for some mediums as DP was redundant and I had 8 mediums total. I did survive but really needed some more to fall back on. I would have been sooo appreciative had I received 2 or 3 nappies back then :D

I've given nappies to Te Awhina and personally would strongly prefer them to be used for the purpose of helping out people in need rather than being a benefit of TNN membership. Happy for them to go to TNN members but more if they need them rather than as a 'bonus'. And agree about new members being potentially a bit ick about 2nd hand nappies.
I think it's lovely to want to give something back to TNN though :D .

I'm not so keen on a 'welcome to tnn' gift, for the reasons stated above really :)
I have a few nappies here that I need to replace the elastic in and send off you to for the kit...

I like the idea of a free hire kit for people who need it (to be returned obviously) and for some of the nappies to be gifted in urgent situations.

Agree.

Laura - I think it is a lovely idea in theory :) I just think that in practice it could get too complicated.
