Dunedin RNW 08

Post by Angel » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:05 pm

We are slowly getting things sorted for Dunedin RNW 21-28 April.

We will be having a Nappicino, probably Monday 21st to kick off the week. I will book the Riselaw Road playcentre for us to use as it has all the facilities and is child proof! Anyone keen for a nappy/baby gear sale and swapsies?

The DCC is setting up a Cloth Nappy Subsidy scheme for us Dunedinites and they will be launching it on March 31st. This is a great opportunity for us and them to bouce our events off each other. There are some limits on the scheme, you have to be in your last trimester of pregnancy or bub has to be less than 9 months old. We did ask about the limits they have put on it, but of course budget is a big issue! There is an awesome list of retailers supporting it.

Hopefully there will be displays at the library and in the events window in the Civic Centre building (the DCC offices) by the elevators. Theres lots of foot traffic going between the Octagon and the Library.

Please feel free to throw in some ideas for more RNW events :D

Hi , i've organised a display at the Mosgiel library ( my sister works there ) for real nappy week and Catherine is going to be providing a poster with the photo taken for the pamphlet ( our bubs will be pleased with that when they're 21 :D ) If there is info / posters etc about TNN will be happy to take them there too
Hope to get to the get together , mon afternoons are not great for us but i'd love to meet some other TNN mums

originally when we were discussing the scheme it was looking to be for all cloth users but other centres completely blew their budgets so the powers that be decided on these limits . But hopefully this means that the scheme will continue !

The Mosgiel display sounds really good. I think Real Nappy Week coming when it does, would be a great opportunity to link in with the new DCC scheme, and help let more people know about MCN.

FYI KLS (Kelley) has a sticky in the committee section of some posters/flyers etc... I think you just need to pm or email her to get printing quality versions. We've asked her to customise some for our Nappy Expo.

(sorry aucklander having a nosey to get ideas)

We also have the community noticeboard outside the DCC offices (too late to book the events window unfortunately) .... which will follow on from the DCC's own display during RNW (we have it the following week which I think is better in a way...at least it means we'll have the display for the actual RNW gatherings).

OK, so far we have the following planned events (more details to follow):
  • Special big nappicino at Riselaw Road playcentre, Monday 21st April. This is where we want to get as many people along to with babies in favourite nappies (and any entries to Pimp that Nappy!), and hopefully a bit of press/media too. Will use the opportunity to promote cloth, another meeting the following Saturday in the library, and the DCC subsidy scheme. Will also do a talk/demo for the benefit of anyone we get along new to cloth, or any local media that we can entice along too. If you are able to, bring a plate just like last time....if not, no worries :)
  • Demonstration and gathering at the Dunedin public library, Saturday 26th April. This is where we hope to get new people along to show them all about it, and other mothers that are old-hands to give of their experience and just be friendly faces.

Things that need doing (volunteers welcome):
  • Anyone with any design flair to help with the display (for the event days, community noticeboard and later anywhere else I can find that will put it up).
  • Printing out, photocopying pamphlets.
  • Distributing pamphlets and putting up posters promoting the events. (Question: should we advertise both events publicly or just the Library demo?)
  • Organising any fun activities for the special nappicino at the playcentre: I'm thinking of a colouring in competition for the bigger kids, where we can then cut out, staple/glue/sellotape together and hang up (if they let us  ). Will need prizes of course :) What else can you think of?
  • Talk to the press :P Not a job I relish. Sound-bites, succinct quirky ways of saying things. Even if you don't want to be the front person, if you have any good ideas for lines, drop us one :)
  • Help with the demos. Aimee and I did one together a little while ago and it worked out great having a couple of people doing it.

Alicia - perhaps contacting some of the MCN agents in Dunedin and asking them for their help with RNW would be worthwhile. One would think that they would be interested in promoting cloth usage, even if it is done in their 'own' time ie not actually promoting their brand - but hang on a minute haven't unpaid members of tnn have been promoting their brands for years!
A bit of helping with a tnn event would be great karma I would have thought, my opinion anyway.

Honeychild and Real Nappies both have Dunedin Agents.
I have contact email addresses.

Riselaw Road Playcentre is confirmed for a nappicino on Monday 21st, from 2pm.
Its on the Calton Hill primary school grounds, there is a sign on the front fence and you head along the right side of the main school building. Its a fully fenced child friendly area indoors and out. Tea and coffee available, gold coin donation appreciated to go to the playcentre.

So, can anyone just come along to the various events? Might be a good chance for me to meet some of you?
Also do you need help with any demonstrations or anything?

Definately, anyone can come!
The nappicino at Riselaw Road will be sweet, but we would appreciate any support at the Library demo :D

Cool 8-) :D

What time will the library demo be? I will try and come to the nappicino then to meet you guys anyway, though :D Will it go for an hour or two? Because we would probably be late because of DS's sleep.
