Need body rise measurements please :)

Post by Darny » Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:08 pm

I won't be producing this pattern too soon, but I would like to make an all in one - long with feet and and arms (and a summer version) which can be used as night wear, so I need measurements over a night nappy to get the fit right.
I had huge issues with any kind of PJ's fitting A when he was a baby, he was a heavy wetter AND a big for age child so I always ended up adding massive amounts of body length to patterns but was never 100% happy with the results because I couldn't find a proper sleep suit pattern, which would allow nappy changes, large enough to add length to.

So I have a mission to create a pattern which would have worked on A, and will hopefully work on all those other babies who's night nappies look like they are wearing a beachball :smt044

I need measurements over both day and night nappies to compare the difference so I can get the fit right.
Could I please have the following measurements/ stats.
Age weight, and height of child
Inside leg with nappy on - taken from centre of nappy down inside leg to ankle bone
Vertical body rise - taken from one shoulder, down the back, between the legs and back up the front across the tummy to the same shoulder
Hip - over the nappy at the widest part (doesn't matter if it's the true hip or not, just need to know how much sideways ease is needed
Foot length - from heel to big toe.

I'd also like feedback on how big you'd like to see the pattern go to - do you want footed sleep suits to fit 3yr olds? older? Or one's without feet for older children but still with nappy allowance?

Thank you thank you  :smt050 :mrred:

L is dry overnight but won't stay under the blankets or wear a sleepsac either - I dress her in merino lined PJ's now or she freezes and wakes up

Do you think I should make a separates pattern with footed pants?

i dont have a baby to mesure for another week but i can measure miss 2 tomorrow.

but im prob the opersite of everyone cos i hate footed pants :hide:

my kids have long legs and i find that the cruch pulls down to there knees and they look like ompa lumpas

in saying that my DS wore cuddle suits (thats what he calls them  ) untill he was 4 1/2, only stopped putting them on him when he came out of night nappies as we were worried he might not get it off in time to get to the toilet 8-[

That's one of the reasons I want the inside leg measurement too - when I altered patterns for A I added a good 5-10 cm to the body length and never needed to shorten the legs, lots of babies are long legged and lots when you find something that fits in the body the legs are miles too long, so I'd like to address both problems if possibly 8-[
Ambitious much?!

I'll measure G tomorrow.

I would have wanted larger sizes - I ended up making my own pattern in approx size 3 for G when he was about 18 months old. Just like you've said - allowing for night nappy room and I also wanted to eliminate the CB seam that was in most patterns. It was the first thing I posted when I started my homemade thread if you want to see.
I also cheated a bit and made it out of a cotton/lycra so there was some extra stretch in the fabric - my preferred option would have been a thicker 100% cotton knit. But I really wasn't sure enough of my pattern making skills.
Once he grew out of it I gave up on all-in -ones and switched to pj's made in knit. I think if I hadn't had to keep making up patterns he'd still be wearing them now but then he'd need a size 4/5!

Age weight, and height of child - 23mo, a bit over 18kg, 97cm
Inside leg with nappy on - taken from centre of nappy down inside leg to ankle bone - 29cm
Vertical body rise - taken from one shoulder, down the back, between the legs and back up the front across the tummy to the same shoulder - 110cm
Hip - over the nappy at the widest part (doesn't matter if it's the true hip or not, just need to know how much sideways ease is needed - 66cm - this ended up being at a bit lower than actual hip
Foot length - from heel to big toe. - 15cm

Measurements taken over night nappy, completely forgot about day measurements so will try tomorrow morning.
