Once a week upcycle challenge?

Post by Darny » Sat Aug 27, 2011 3:40 pm

Wondering if anyone would be keen on a weekly challenge to upcycle one item into something new?
I've been doing a lot of this recently, to date I've transformed sheets, wool blankets, tee shirts and have plans for pillowcases and some more of the stuff I've already done.
I'm going to blog it as soon as DH sorts the camera.

I think it's a great idea, I love up-cycling things, although I haven't done anything for a while. I'd be up for it, but I don't know if I could manage to do it every week, it would depend on how much other stuff I had on really.

Sounds like fun, I don't think I would ever get something done in a week but will keep an eye on the thread for inspiration.

I have made some sheets like this but haven't got around to making anything out of it yet.

Well I've learnt how to make freezer paper and use it for stencils - piece of cake and really cheap too!
Haven't tried using plastic bags as fabric though.
I've made fort kits and quilt backings with sheets.
Woolen blankets as quilt inners,
tee shirts as the ties on the fort kits
planning lots more things, just need the time!

Reason: edited to change fort "kids" to "kits" DOH

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-yo ... cky-Paper/

basically I just got a bit of lunchwrap paper - ordinary not waxed, and a supermarket shopping bag - cut the bag to about the same size as the paper, got an old bit of cotton fabric and layered them so it was paper, plastic bag smoothed out as flat as possible, and then the fabric - ironed it until the plastic bag and the paper had bonded, then treated it like freezer paper. (the fabric is just to stop the iron getting plastic on it and peels right off)

just found this in your blog : )

keen to get stuck into such a challenge - still learning to manage the 2 kid juggle (6 months on) and dreaming of a better space to keep my sewing machine than a shelf in the linen cupboard!
