Rocket park is in the center of Mt Albert on New North Rd (almost on the corner of New North Rd and St Lukes Rd) Its the park at the Mt Albert War Memorial Reserve and gets heaps of parents there on a nice day. And prob under 10mins from the motorway.

Aah, that's the one I was referring to as Albert Park. I would have thought you'd have got more people at Western Springs.

I think the one problem with the Western Springs one is that yes Western Springs has ALOT more people there but it is really hard to draw people from the park/pond/playground accross the road to the venue. So many people wouldn't think to pop into it if they had parked by the Zoo side of the park.

Can I ask how many people visit the Cloth Nappy Education Centre on a weekly basis? Just a rough estimate will do.

I do think it's worthwhile considering the venue. Lisa, I know you feel it's a long way to go, but I don't see a great deal of difference between Te Atatu and Western Springs to be honest. It's only a few minutes further up the same road.

If there was enough overlap between the two that we both benefited, I think it could be worth it.

Also Waitakere City does a lot to promote cloth in their community and I'd consider that they are leading the way in Auckland. We could really tap into this if they allow it.

Some other thoughts. A lot of community centres are near libraries, plunket and shopping centres. How does this one stack up in that regards?

If I was Papakura I'm not sure whether Western Springs or Te Atatu would make much difference. I'd be wanting Greenlane or closer. Problem is we will never please everyone.

Dare I say it, but in future we could always take advantage of both Real Nappy Weeks and have them in different geographic locations in Auckland if we want to cover more area.

Asside from the perception of travel I have nothing against investigating Te Atatu

The Cloth centre has to be open on a Saturday and we'd need permission to open on a Sunday from the counsil (no biggie) however from descriptions it's fairly small and might be better to keep people all in one venue for the event anyway.

Rebecca, you sound like you know a little bit about this place.

Can you, or someone who is local to the centre provide us with more information about the Community Centre.

i.e. proximity to places where mum's hang out, i.e. suitable foot traffic , size of venue compared to the Western Springs venue.

Basically anything of relevance would be useful.

I agree with the WCC thing......they are cloth supportive [and an awful lot of the helpers last year were westies]

I dunno about the Cloth Nappy Education Centre....its really little and sorta nowhere near anything.....I dont really know the Community Centre very well tho

After all that....Im sure the downfall of the event last year was the weather.......not the parking and area....it has its own parking so not competing with Western Springs for parking, its central.....minutes from the city......

The problem last year was not enough advertising.....and weather

YEs from memory, the weather last year was really really bad.

Wasn't it quite a good turnout the year before when the weather was lovely?

I didn't volunteer that year but I remember it was quite busy when I dropped in to visit. Last year's weather was terrible. I know a few who would have came if the weather wasn't that bad.

The year before was rocking.

As soon as we book the venue we will be advertising in all the free locations

Rocket Park : From what I gather either:

http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council ... enhall.asp
Overall slightly smaller than western springs but two rooms (dinning room could be used for Demos)

http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council ... arhall.asp
Bigger than western springs.
