Bummer! We're still months out from October. Can't believe they're all booked up already! :boohoo:

I'm sure that was the same time as we held our Spring Sale a couple of years back and we booked it only a few weeks beforehand.

Im more then willing to help out too if needed..

Do you have a list of the places where advertising is free? Is there certain dates that you can do this?
Also it's a good idea to check (if it hasnt been done already) if there isnt anything else big on that week....

As for location, im more for central even though i am on the north shore myself..ive got the feeling west will be to far out for people on the other side of town..

How about North Shore city council ?! LOL

BTW my sister in law works for city council newspaper.. i can as her to advertise something for us too?!

I will tentatively put my hand up to help, but could only do the weekend of the 9th/10th as I'll be helping out with the AKL Slingwalk and may be holding our monthly SE Slingbabies the next weekend.

That is terrible about the venue! I can't believe they are booked out so far in advance.

I was thinking today that we really do need to get the venue sorted ASAP because then we can advertise in places like Tots to Teens which have a long lead time.

Any other venue suggestions out there?

For those that have volunteered to help out, there are heaps of jobs you can help with, either in the lead up to the event, or on the actual day we'll need heaps of friendly faces to help set up, explain how MCNs work, etc.

Is there any idea of budget (if there is any) for the venue? Ill have to give my SIL a call and see if she can arrange a cheap venue via the AUckland city council.. they always organize stuff so maybe she can help us out...

I was just looking on the Auckland City Council venue page too.

Anyone know anything about these places:

We run the day to break even, so the more expensive the venue, the more we have to charge retailers to participate.

Given the really low turnout last year, we are operating on hardly any goodwill, so we don't want an expensive venue.

From the list on that website, the Mt Albert Community and Recreation Centre is in the same location as the Rocket Park also, so could be a good option. The Grey Lynn Community Centre is where it was before Western Springs, and the room they held it would not fit what we've grown the Expo to. I haven't visited anyof the other venues.

Mt Roskill Memorial has a playground and fairly big park around it. Good parking space.. but it's not very central and it's not widely known.

Wesley is a better (and newer) one in Mt Roskill as well, nice fenced playground also park around it.
Plenty of off street parking but again not as central

Audrey, that Wesley centre looks interesting, especially since it looks like it is used regularly for markets during the week. I wonder if there is the opportunity to do promotion at those markets beforehand. If so, I think it could be very viable.

Another bonus with the venues next to Rocket Park is that there is a fab coffee shop across the road

I will be busy with the AKL sling walk on Oct 16th so either Sunday 17th or the weekend before would be cool with me :D

Those markets get really busy, I've driven past there a few times when they are on.
