Crafts for Christchurch...???

Can i propose a crafts for chch project?

i'm planning to whip up as many small toys as i can over the next few weeks to send to the kids of chch i don't know how i'll get them distributed yet, thinking maybe via plunket or playcentre or via one of our members perhaps, all depending on volume..

i just think that a wee parcel of love would be really nice for the little ones, who have gone through so much these past months...

anyone care to join me????

i was thinking of doing some little crochet toys (there are heaps of great free patterns out there), pocket dolls, and maybe some felted balls for bubs...



eta- just posted this in ot chat in response to concern about unsolicited donations to red cross et al...

oh certainly not meaning urgently!!! how fast do you guys think i can craft?! i'm thinking about more something to send down in a month, more likely two, when things have started to return to 'normal'... certainly don't want to place any more stress on people distributing more important stuff at the mo! i'm thinking long term regeneration, rather than emergency aid...

I'm in I just made a huge effort tonight to unpack or restack boxes so I can get sorted to start sewing again. Was thinking I will do something for the older kids. But will take me to the weekend to get 100% sorted to start sewing.

What a great idea - I'm in. Can knit a few toys and sew a few rag dolls. Is there a time frame in mind?

I think we are looking longer term, like maybe a few weeks to a month or more down the track, depending how long it takes to get services and stuff back....
At the moment they won't want any extra "stuff" but later when it starts to sink and they try and get life back to 'normal' they are gonna need some cheering up

I know Arlo, at just turned 2, has been terrified by the jolts and is a grumpy, unsettled wee soul There are just so many families in shock, that wee handmade gifts will be so welcome, I'm sure! If we get out of town I'm taking my sewing machine and will add some balloon balls to the donations.
