I'd love a pattern for boys pants with a trim strip down the sides. PDF.

You know you can just sew some trim down the side seam before sewing up the inside leg?

What size you after, pants are uber easy, and if you need a 2 or 3ish size there is a free one online, will try and find it

Fantastic thanks, my boy is 2yrs 3mths, I have made some but they always come out too wide in the legs or too short, last time I forgot to add seam allowances so they didn't fit over the nappies, but now fit over nickers but are too short. Hopefully will fit better now with nickers. Thanks again.

Pants made, will try them on DS in the morning, as tempting as it is to try them on now, I'll let sleeping boy lie.

Well he woke up at 11.30 anyways, but I didnt' bother trying them on then, he's wearing them today, but they are a bit short in the length of the crotch and could do with being a bit wider in the body but the leg width is great. They will no doubt shrink as I used unwashed homespun, and then they won't fit at all, but it was only scrap fabric for a see if they fit pair. I'd love a pattern that is one piece and is higher in the back than the front IYGWIM.

Do you sew them with a leg inside the other? That's how I do it, but I'm always completely confused until I've pulled them out.. haha

Yeah I sew little kids ones that way, but once the get bigger it's easier to sew them the other way if you want to (hard to sew really little things the other way)

One piece patterns you can't get the straight leg look with and are only suitable for knits, you have to use two piece patterns for non knit fabrics or the grain lines are wrong and they sit funny.

to adjust the pattern you have add to the crotch line and waistband (normally you'd split the pattern down the grain line to add in width, but that will add width to the legs too)
So you want to add a cm or so (depending how much too small they are) to the J shape (crotch) - you can make this a more pronounced J by making the point where the crotch and the leg meet (inside leg and crotch seam) a sharper angle - so extending that seam evenly - a little more distance there will add more room. You should be able to add in body width that way, and a little bit of height to the crotch, but if needing lots of extra height add to the waistband as well.

If you're still stuck I'll get measurements off you and draft up a pattern
