Blackboard paint

Blackboard paint

Postby jennyo » Tue Apr 26, 2011 2:26 pm

Does anyone know of a cheap place to buy blackboard paint? It seems quite expensive.
I've seen recipes for making it using non-sanded tile grout which I will look into next time I'm at a hardware store, but I have a feeling that a bag of grout isn't going to be cheap either which will make it not worth the effort.

we bought ours from bunnings, but i remember spotting it somewhere since then and really kicking myself for not thinking to look there 1st, but once again i cannot remember where that was. its worth looking in a few of the dollar stores.
you only need the smallest tin, we have a medium sized tin and i think we have enough to do an entire school of blackboards!!

I got a spray can from Bunnings that was fairly reasonable if you were doing a smaller area.

They don't do test pots. We used resene for our outdoor blackboard and gave it two coats. We only used half a small tin, so it goes a long way. Could you go halves with someone?

I just bought some from Bunnings. I did find non-sanded tile grout there but it came in 2kg bags (for $12) so it would have made A LOT more than I needed! So I didn't bother and just bought a spray can of it. Thanks ladies.
