Baggy waist in Jeans

Baggy waist in Jeans

Postby jhcsmum » Thu May 19, 2011 3:24 pm

Where would you insert elastic or take a tuck in a pair of jeans that sag/bag at the back of the waist, they are stretch skinnies and fit my bum but the waist is way too big (bit of out of proportioness going on here). I normally just bung some elastic in the back, but would it be better to put it in the sides, so you avoid the bunching at the top of the bum?

Any clues/hints/tips, apart from reducing the size of my bum so I can buy smaller jeans lol.

You have the opposite problem to me - anyone have any ideas about how to keep jeans up when someone's waist is bigger than their hips? :boohoo:

To reduce the waist I'd take tucks (diagonally so they start at the part nearest the bottom and get wider as a wee triangle towards the waistline) in at the centre back, then 1/2 way across between the centre back and the side seam, and if you need to remove more then some at the side seam.... you want to try and make the jeans taper in to the waist so you may need to take the waistband off and make it smaller too

Waist bigger than hips... a belt? Or just get really well fitting jeans? (never had that problem, I've got a bum and hips like the back of a bus :smt044 )

Thanks for your suggestion.

There's about two inches gathered up together, so four inches in total that need to come in, so sounds like I'll have to take the band off and make the jeans smaller and then make it smaller, any tips for that

Quick unpick....
the waistband should be able to have a chunk taken out at the back? I wouldn't want to try re-doing the front button closures or anything so taking a seam at the back would be the safest I'd say - do the pants part first and then measure to fit...

Well that looks a whole lot better than what I ended up with, will have to file that link for next time, I went with two large darts into the pockets, and it isn't pretty, but they fit now and feel fantastic. There is also no chance of it being seen when I wear them, I always wear a longer top to cover my butt.

I got the same problem at the moment, but more that the body is the jeans is getting smaller so jeans are getting baggy.

I looked at that tut the other day and went naaa way too much effort for me so I just slit a hole in the waistband about halfway btw the front zip and side seam, sewed in a button on zip side of hole, did same on other side, then threaded button hole elastic through so that I can get good adjustment. Gathers it a tad but I never have the top of my jeans showing so doesnt bother me.
