Charity auction 2011 Update - Another $500 donated Pg. 12

Re: Charity auction 2011 - Committee members Pg. 3 please.

Postby Minty » Sat Jan 22, 2011 8:22 pm

I live in Christchurch, and Mum is in Auckland, so although I am busy, unfortunately I'm not able to spend time with her on a daily basis, so life pretty much goes on as usual around here (except when I'm in Auckland). Mum is very fortunate to be receiving hospice care at home, rather than staying in hospice, and the lovely staff come out to manage her medication every day. Mum did have a ~10 day stay in hospice in December, and they were marvelous, but its usually more pleasant to be at home if at all possible, so she's lucky to have the service available now.

Re the TM listings, at the moment, I'll just get together a list of things, and give people time to make things and then plan a time to list them when I have no trips to Auckland planned. I'll sing out if I think I need some help though. To be honest, I think my trips to Auckland will probably be coming to an end fairly soon anyway :boohoo: (quite possibly before the auctions run), so it will be something to keep me busy and distracted for a while.

I am OK thanks Megan. We have known this was coming for a long time, and its hard, and I'm sad, but I'm also very grateful for the extra time we've had with Mum (about a year more than typical for her cancer type), most of which she was still working, and living a fairly normal life, and managed her 'bucket list' trip on The Ghan in Australia. Of course sometimes I'm very sad, especially for the girls, and I'll miss my best friend dreadfully (missing her already), but I will be, and I am, OK.

Some milo vests would be lovely thanks :)

Claire, I can donate fabric for you to make things! If that's ok? I haven't sent off your second parcel yet so could pop it in there.

I'm trying to work out what kind of things would be the most popular/make the most $$

the stretch and grow jobbies? Yeah I can do a couple of them. I tried selling some a while back and no one wanted them so thought I'd just stick to tops

ohh nic :grouphug:

one thing that really helped with the fistula auctions was making the goodies into bundles, which i think helped raise more $$ because it was extra special having a (somewhat) co-ordinated package, rather than individual items, and of course made it easier to manage ;) i think some extra special items were by themselves though.. it also helped to have everything prepacked with auction # labels, so that as soon as it sold it could be bunged straight in the post!

i could maybe put together a wee felting kit? (perhaps a wet felt art activity for kids..??)

It's time. I've just found hundreds of little plaster of paris shapes which should sell well in sets (for arts and crafts for kids), and I want to get this show on the road!

I'm now calling for donations for this charity auction. Nova, that's a great idea (above) I'll bundle some, and sell others separately. I haven't approached TM yet about the charity fee refund, so I'll work on that, and in the meantime I'll cover the first $100 of fees (I'm hopeful that we'll have that much  ), and then after that it will come out of proceeds unless TM have come to the party.

I'll gather stuff at my place, and list it (and let you all know when its up), and we'll go from there. If your contribution is heavy/large and it would make sense to send it directly (at buyers cost) from your place, rather than sending to me first, then please send me good pictures and full description instead. I would imagine most things would be able to be posted here though for bundling etc.

PM for my address please.

Initially, I think end of March cut-off date would work (for early April auctions).

Thanks so much to everyone who has made offers and ideas so far, I'm really looking forward to running this auction.

I completely missed this thread Nic, am glad you mentioned it today. Might be worth mentioning it in off topic, just in case there are others who would love to help but don't check this section very often :D

I'll have a think and let you know what I can make for you. I'm assuming things made from bought patterns are ok to make for charity auctions? hope so, 'cos that broadens my list of ideas rather substantially 8-[

A little update regarding this fundraiser. Having spent time with Mum in hospice a couple of weeks ago I am fired up to get it rolling again. The care and support hospice provide is amazing. Mum is home again now with a marvelous hospice bed (with all the bells and whistles) and a ‘lifter chair’ which enables her to use a comfortable chair and get out of it again by herself (which she had become unable to do).

The Christchurch earthquake unfortunately stopped me in my tracks, and timings fell by the wayside, but I have started to collect some beautiful goodies, which I will photograph soon and post pictures, and I welcome all contributions. I know some people already have some goodies ready for me so if you need my address, please PM me. Also, the beautiful garments I have already have a wee tag with the yarn type, size etc. That is really helpful (doesn't need to be anything fancy), but it will speed up auction loading for me. I am planning on a July auction round, so contributions by about the end of June.

Thanks so much,

Nicci :D
