I have one of these too, only got it a couple of years ago from a local sewing machine repair shop, and to be honest it is the first overlocker that I've owned, but I love it, and it seems to do everything that I've asked of it, so far. Not too difficult to thread either, once I got the hang of it.

I have a Janome 134, bought off TM 6 + years ago for $130. I knew little about overlockers then, it is a 4 thread (essential!), but doesn't have differential feed (which to be honest I don't really know if I miss it ;)). I was going to upgrade a few years back, but the guy whom serviced it said it was a great machine and never to part with it! So, I've held onto his expert opinion and stuck with it. Found a rolled hem plate for $50 which is a key feature IMO. I'm happy, I don't need anything else.

I was speaking with the Wellington Sewing guy a few years back (when buying my coverpro) and he said that Janome is a great reliable brand - their quality is consistent from the entry end, right through to mid- & upper- range. I see a few people here have Brother overlockers, I'm personally wary of Brother due to my Mum's issues with her (sewing) machine. But, it appears it has a good fan base on here!

I think you'll love having an overlocker, especially with all the knits that you have access to!

I think that's a good price for that model Brother. I nearly bought one of those, but decided to buy the Elna 792D that's newish at Spotlight (for budget reasons). It was only $399 and does everything I need it to :)

:smt044 my machines are my other babies, i even check on them after earthquakes

mine is a bernina700D and I've been really really happy with it. I bought it new a year ago and wouldn't be without it now. I can't believe I sewed for so long before getting an overlocker, all that zigzag I used to do :twitch: definitely a worthwhile purchase.

now all I need is a coverstitch 8-[ :smt005

This one looks pretty good.

I covet a coverstitch machine too - but doubt my DH would let me sneak one into the budget

I got a Merrylock Coverstitch machine and it is really good - it works quite happily with the big overlocker spools from Spotlight. I've managed to attach a binding attachment to it and it's quite easy to thread. Admittedly not as fancy as the Coverpro, but I couldn't quite fit a Coverpro into the budget
