best long lasting receipe I've found it our playcentre one , but it makes up a fairly big amount
4 tsp cream of tarter
4 cups salt
8 cups boiling water
10 tbsp oil
stir thoroughly , add food colouring
stir in 8 cups of flour

stir / knead together
Mum to my two gorgeous and sometimes headache inducing children

I just use the common as muck, standard issue Playcentre recipe, reduced to allow for fewer children:

2C flour
1c salt
2c water
2T oil
4t cream of tartar
food colouring

Mix in a saucepan and heat until it comes away from the sides of the pot. Knead (carefully, because it's hot!) and play!

We add essences like raspberry or peppermint, glitter, and recently played about with different oils (peanut and sesame) to change the smell. Sand can be fun to add too, if you have the chunky kind rather than the fine stuff.

My kids like rolling old beaded necklaces into it, using rubber stamps, making cakes with muffin cups and toothpicks as candles etc.

This is foolproof :D
Mix together
2 heaped Tlb cream of tartar
2 heaped Tlb oil
1/2 cup salt
food colouring (decent amount if you like brights  )
then add 2 cups of boiling water & stir
then add 2 cups flour and mix then knead, knead, knead
This recipe always produces a nice light playdough that is very easy for little hands to manipulate :D & lasts ages

I get wooden rolling pins out of catalogues at work & the rest cutters etc from $2 type shops

Middy, you ought to go on a playdough workshop - you have no idea how many 'standard' playcentre issue recipes there are!!!

I just put all the dry ingredients in a bowl, with the oil and food colouring on the top, add the boiling water and stir until combined.
