Has anyone sewn the pattern from ottobre..

the one with the 'baby carrier for a doll', and 'carry cot for a baby doll'?

My DD has requested these for Christmas from Santa - so it looks like I will be busy!!

My questions are:
-do I need to use wadding?
-what is rigilene boning?

yes I have.
yes you need wadding (although it doesn't need to be iron on) and you need boning.. which you can get at spotlight.
Boning is the bendy stuff they used to use in corsets

the carrier is really fiddly and none of the kids can ever use it. Don't recommend that one.

Cool!! What does the boning do in particular?
And the wadding - I can see how it has to be used in the wadding, but is it necessary in the carrier?

Bummer about the carrier - that is the one that DD has her eye on!! She would prefer that over the carrycot. Is it fiddly to put on? or fiddly to make?

I also see in your photos (thanks for your photos - they look really cool) that you have snaps on the carrycot. Just ordinary snaps will work? (I see in the book it says to use heavy duty snaps)

the boning and the wadding are just for the carrycot. The boning keeps the shape.

the carrier is too hard for kids to put on. There are lots of easier ways to make them though.

the snaps need to be pretty strong to keep the hood on.

So did you use ordinary size 20 snaps?

And the wadding - it is also listed for the carrier. Did you use it on yours?

Do you happen to have some links to easier baby carriers? :D

Just another question:

when they say in the instructions to 'understitch' - what does that mean?

I think I tried to look that book up - but it doesn't look like our library has it unfortunately...

A bit late for Christmas now but our library also does a book request thing

A few weeks ago there were a couple of books i wanted that our library didn't have. i put in a book request and 3 weeks later the brand new books were waiting for me at our local library. The librarian said that most requests are accepted as they are always trying to find out what people really want.

Yep - I have done that a few times now too. May still do that for this book, but that is not going to help me right now. I had also thought of doing an interloan, but I think it may be too late for that too.

Nevermind...

Do you know what understitching means?

Keeps a facing or lining from rolling onto the right side of a garment. After pressing the seam allowance and facing away from the garment, stitch through both a scant 1/8" from the seam. Some people grade the seam allowance and facing/lining prior to stitching to eliminate bulk.
