Fabrics for a buggy liner

Fabrics for a buggy liner

Postby sjl » Sun Feb 12, 2012 8:42 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best fabric for making a buggy liner and sleeping bag attachment? I don't really like the idea of using polar fleece 'cause it seems like it'd be a bit too hot in summer. Would minky be ok or a bit too sweaty as well?
I was thinking of just using drill or denim for the backing as it'd be nice and durable.
I assume its best to use a poly batting rather than wool or cotton?

I'm imagine minky would be much the same unless it was lined on the inside (for sleeping bag style). Our minky carseat/buggy blanket has got cotton knit on the underside.

I'd go with something like cord or polarfleece for the side against the buggy (being a bit more "grippy".

Good tute here..

Suedecloth is a good non-slip backing. I use poly batting just cos it's not important for it to be a natural fibre in a buggy and it's cheaper. I got a bit of that ready-quilted stuff for my latest one. FOE makes a good binding if you don't stretch it (the wide stuff). I've used quilting cotton to top them. I've also made a buggy sleeping bag from minky. That was nice and snuggly but I don't think I'd use it just for a liner. You can cut a vertical slot for shoulder straps if you want to be able to move positions. FOE looks good for binding the slots, too.

I have one made from quilting cotton on top, poly batting and then a bit of leftover poly/cotton sheet i hacked up to make J's duvet cover  I wish I'd gone for something grippier on the back cos it slips down all the time and drives me a little bonkers! I haven't done a sleeping bag attachment, I just put a blanket over when needed
